"Never trust a man who, when left alone in a room with a tea cozy, doesn't try it on"
As a nation the British drink 165 million cups per day or 62 billion cups per year; 70 per cent of the population (over the age of 10) drank tea yesterday and over 25 per cent of all the milk consumed in the UK goes in cups of tea. Tea is the answer to every problem in Britain. We joke that if they announced that we all had 1 hour to live (giant meteorite or something like that!), the first thing everyone in Britain would do is pop the kettle on! So really, what could be better than a cocktail with both tea and gin in it!

The Royal Tea was created in honour of Helen Mirren’s performance as Queen Elizabeth II where she took home the Oscar for best actress at the 79th Academy Awards. Beefeater Gin created The Royal Tea cocktail and dedicate it to the 2006 film.
The original included Beefeater Gin and Earl Grey tea so to add a little local twist I used a tea from the fabulous Tea Girl in Edmonton. I used their Santosa Estate Black Tea which brews to give you a delicious sweet, jammy flavour. This cocktail would be perfect for brunch or afternoon tea.
2 parts steeped and cooled tea
2 parts gin
Squeeze of lemon juice
Pour everything over a large ice cube and enjoy. Wear your crown if you have one.
Note: I do not care for sweet cocktails and I felt no need to add sugar to the tea. If you like your tea a little sweeter add 1 tsp sugar to the hot tea.
