You want Halloween in a glass?  I give you the Out of My Head Cocktail;

That wonderful red drizzle of Halloween cocktail magic is grenadine.  Amazing stuff!

The name grenadine originated from the French word grenade which means pomegranate, with pomme meaning apple and granate derived from the Italian word for seeds.

Grenadine is the ruby red syrup that is going to make this cocktail blood red and Halloween perfect!  Of course you can buy grenadine but why not make your own- its super easy and you can make it thicker, like I did, to give that truly blood like gloopy effect.

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup 100% unsweetened pomegranate juice- I juiced my own with my hand press juicer.  I would not recommend using an electric juicer as the white parts can make it bitter!
  • 1/2 lemon- you might need all of it or just a little of it- depends on how sharp you want the syrup.

  • Combine the sugar and juice in a pan.  Place over medium heat and stir to help the sugar dissolve.
  • Bring to a boil. Bring the mixture to a rapid boil and cook for 5 minutes or until thickened (I went for super thick!).
  • Cool and add lemon juice to taste.
  • Remove from the heat and let the mixture cool.

  • 1 ½ oz Crystal Head Vodka
  • 1 oz Galliano  (I didn't have any so inspired by its ingredient list I added a dash of vanilla extract instead and put a little more vodka in)
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • 1 scoop of ice
  • 1 tsp simple syrup (I honestly don't think it needs this as the ice cream is pretty sweet so you can decide for yourself, I wont be adding it next time I make this drink)
  • 1 oz Grenadine

Simple add everything except the Grenadine to a blender and blitz till creamy smooth.  Place in the glass and top with the thick Grenadine syrup!

Join me for one last Halloween crazy cocktail tomorrow and by then I hope to see that you have rushed out to get yourself some skull glasses- they really are quite amazing!

I was sent a sample of Crystal Head Vodka for this collaboration. Images, bad jokes and opinions are, as always, my own.
