HOME
Tuesday, July 03, 2012Where is home? What is home? It's a funny old question?
I attended a BBQ hosted by friends met on an expat forum of which I am a member. Joining the party were many other expats who like me jumped from the UK to Canada. Some have been in Canada a long time, some a short time. It felt strange being surrounded by UK accents and as scary as it sounds, they sounded unfamiliar and out of tune with the everyday Canadian we are now used to.
One lady mentioned she is flying home soon to see family. I didn't say anything at the time but pondered the term "home". What is home and surely if you live in Canada right now, that is your home?
Perhaps it's hard to shake off our roots and the draw of being here with family and friends so far away makes it hard to say that home is anywhere other than the place we grew up and know so well.
I love all of my family, don't get me wrong but at this time my home is not the UK, it is in Edmonton, Canada with my two crazy kids, my chew anything that stays still long enough dog and my fab husband.
"Home is where the heart is"
Home is also where the crazy stuff happens, and I would not want to be anywhere else!

Elyse - your presence in any house would immediately make it feel like a home. You are such a wonderful loving and sociable person that anyone lucky enough to meet you will have a caring and fun loving friend for life. Your home is one full of love and laughter - the two most important ingredients for a happy home.
ReplyDeleteCanada gained a wonderful family when you four took up residence there. As you say 'Home is where the heart is' - live life to the full all of you and enjoy xxxx
