Anti inflammatory, cancer prevention, pain relief, antioxidant, vitamin rich, immune boosting, micro nutrient dense, kick in the ass morning juice. Or as I like to call it, "Wake Up Juice".
One shot of this each morning and even the thought of back to school, crazy mornings are nothing to fear! I am slowly trying to encourage the hubby to take a shot each morning too but am thinking that maybe a little honey in the mix might make it a sweeter deal for him.
WHAT YOU NEED
- 3 oranges
- 10 cm piece of root ginger, peeled. (I use a knife but I have seen many advocate the spoon method to scrape the flesh off. Every time I do this I end up with ginger juice in my eye!!)
- 1/2 tsp dried turmeric
WHAT YOU DO
- Squeeze the juice from the orange- you can do this anyway you fancy and just throwing them in the juicer works but I like any excuse to get my awesome citrus juicer out and I prefer the less bitter approach of not adding the peel.
- Throw the ginger in the juicer.
- Place the juices and the turmeric in a jar and every morning give it a good shake and take a shot.
I know that the rule of thumb when using juice is that "fresh" is better and you should only juice just before you want to drink it. Whilst normally I follow this rule, first thing in the morning is not when I want to be assembling and washing my juicer, so I work on the basis of "the best you can do" and a shot of a few days old juice is better than none at all.
This mix lasts me a few days and then I just whip up my next batch.
It's warming, rich, earthy and makes you feel like you had the very best start to your day.
