BLACK FOREST GATEAUX MASTER CLASS
Thursday, January 23, 2014It's time to get retro in the kitchen! Black Forest Gateaux is a blast from the past that even makes me smile just typing its name. On our Christmas adventures at my Mum's house over the festive period she gave us a little Master class in Black Forest Gateaux construction- mainly for my brother who just happens to absolutely love this classic, boozy delight.
Start with a fat less chocolate sponge and slice into layers- give it a very generous drink of Kirsch.
For true Retro points it has to be tinned Cherry Pie filling next.
Then add a layer of softly whipped cream.
Next layer of sponge on.
More booze!
More pie filling and cream.
More cake, more booze....
Top the cakes with cream and even out the top.
Pipe some fancy twirls of cream around the edge of the Gateaux.
Add some cherries and a drizzle of melted chocolate
I give you the very Retro, very wonderful, Black Forest Gateaux.

SWEET MOSES! this looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteYUM! I even made MY OWN cherry pie filling with Evans Sour Cherries from my freezer this year - super easy. I was surprised. Haven't posted it yet. This is my kind of fun on a pedestal!

That looks amazing! Especially the booze part. Not sure if I'm ready to try my hand at fancy cake baking, but the end result sure would be worth it!
