Hair Pain

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

I write this as someone who has suffered.  I write this as someone who has childhood memories that still haunt me today.  I was a child with bad hair.  Not by any fault of my own but by the curse of the "friend" hairdresser and the bad style choice Mother!
The picture you see here is evidence:

For the record that is not just a pudding cut.  The hair on the back of my head is so long I am sat on it.  In the Guinness Book of records I am sure I have a place as having the longest mullet ever recorded.  My fringe starts behind my ears!!  Never should a fringe start behind the ears.  Just to clarify my point; FRINGES DO NOT START BEHIND THE EARS EVER!

"Fringe (or "Bangs") are a shaped cutting of the front part of the hair so that it is combed forward and hangs or curls over the forehead. A classic fringe is cut fairly straight at or above the eyebrows, but fringes can also be ragged or ruffled, spiked up with hair gel, swept to one side or the other, and sometimes they are cut longer to partially cover the eyes"

I also had a perm!  Who perms hair under the age of 10?

Many people say you should look back at your youth and understand how good you looked simply because of the beauty that is youth!  RUBBISH!  I had bad nails, I dressed like an athletic boy and I had either a perm or a mullet!  Sod all of that, I look good at 30.  I take care to get good hair cuts and I look after my skin and my nails.  I dress well and with thought for where I am going and what I am doing.  My Mum has a lot to answer for when it comes to my hair but at least she taught me the importance of a good hairdresser and may the smell of bad perm solution never darken my days again!

  1. Good Grief!
You could have been writing my life's history there. You did make me laugh!!

The hangovers for me were that I thought this was normal and continued to cut MYSELF a mullet whilst at uni to save money (u can imagine the photos) and that the very day I realised that it was a form of self harm, I vowed to have my hair cut as little as possible, and certainly never ever with short bits. I am now a 46 year old woman with hair down to my arse. Bad in a different way as I am sure you will agree. Following you now! x

  3. Too funny! I never had long hair like that but the fringe is awfully familiar! Mullets were actually quite trendy in the late 70s/ early 80s! Thanks for Rewinding and giving me a little chuckle x
