REAL CHERRYADE

Saturday, July 05, 2014

I love cherries.  They are like fruit for grown ups, deep, dark and sophisticated.  We have a Sodastream and I love the control it gives you for a friendlier fizzy drink.  Real Cherryade syrup is the perfect partner to some freshly fizzed water.

After we blended our syrup we left all of the big bits still in and next time I feel we would strain it as the chunks kept blocking the straw!

INGREDIENTS

200 g fresh cherries
25 g sugar
Juice of 1 lime

TO SERVE
300ml soda water
Ice
Cherry for garnish

METHOD

  1. De-stem the cherries and place in a pan with the sugar and 200 ml water.  Bring to the boil and simmer gently for 10 minutes until the cherries are very soft.
  2. Cool and strain through a sieve.  Crush the cherries to remove the stones.
  3. Tip the cherries and the syrup into a blender and blitz.  You can strain this mix off in case there are any bits in or just serve as it is.
  4. In a glass place ice, some cherryade syrup and top with soda water.  Keep the leftover syrup in a jar in the fridge.
Add as much or as little syrup as you like.  Harry pointed out that this would also be a great addition to home made lemonade- good call Harry!

It's also really good with a splash of spiced rum- just sayin!
